Don't forget this scripture:
Nehemiah 8:10 New International Version (NIV)
Nehemiah said, “Go and enjoy choice food and sweet drinks, and send some to those who have nothing prepared. This day is holy to our Lord. Do not grieve, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.”
The kid inside of me gets excited when I plan fun things. Like going to a movie, a park with grandkids and begin Elf for Christmas. I help at the Foster Family Christmas party as a Elf along side of Darlene. We are knowns as Speedy and Sparkie. It brings joy to the faces of kids and adults. It brings joy to us too. It is the beginning of the Christmas Season and not everyone is happy during this time. I will never forget a little boy who was asked what he wanted for Christmas. His answer was, my mom and that can't happen. I felt tears inside my heart for him and realized in that moment the temporary joy is so important to those who hurt.
Growing up for me was mostly spent without friends. I had to stay inside a lot and I grew to love coloring and talking to stuff animals. Keep in mind, there wasn't iPhones, Internets and we only had one TV in the living room. It was more on the quiet side of life and my brain worked way too much. I would dream of life as an adult and having friends. I would want my mom to play with me or go outside with me. She just didn't have enough time she would say. Yet, she sat in a chair and played crossword puzzles. Hum, things that make you think!
I grew up to help in Kids Ministry at church. My husband and I were youth Pastors for several years and continued to volunteer after the title was gone. It didn't take away who I was inside and I still find joy in helping. Little kids needs friends and someone just to share a prayer with or a smile with. I have learned over life that we just don't know what others go through. Love people at where they are at and pray for them. There is a lot of hurting kids and adults at Christmas time.
THINGS THAT MAKE ME SMILE ~
Thinking about my family, friends and meeting new people. I love time with others and sharing life. I love that you read this blog and will share it with someone. We need each other in life and God never wants us to feel alone. He connects lives for purpose!
I don't want to skip over thanksgiving time. A time to give thanks to God for all you do have in life and health. Health is a major thing to be grateful for in life. We get up daily and should never take health for granted. I've seen a lot in life and I know that God continues to shine through lives. Your example is far greater than you might realize. God gives peace in the midst of holiday struggles and thoughts of yesterdays. We just miss the past and that can be so real. Stop to count some blessing today and everyday of time. Make a common thing to do each morning, noon and night. I find myself thanking God for life everyday since my heart attack in September.
Matthew 19:14 New International Version (NIV)Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”
I hope today you feel the love of God within your mind and heart. I hope you see yourself important and special in this life. Let the kid inside of you arise and keep counting blessings. My prayers continue for you, your family and friends.
