1789 George Washington became our first President. He was called, "The Father of HIS Country." His face is on the one dollar bill. Our Capital city is named after him. We stop today to celebrate not just President Washington, but all the Presidents that followed him today.
My granddaughters have a small book titled, "Presidents of the United States by Bendon Reading Discovery. A few fun presidential facts about our nation's great leaders. Brookley found this book in the dollar second of Target and took time to read it. Laughing about hair styles and ages of many of them. I like the way Brookley wanted to know more. She said, "each one was very important". I'm glad we took some time to talk about our history.
This is not just a day off of work, but a day to stop and give thanks for those who lead our country. Whether we voted for the person or not, we are still to give honor to that person. We are to pray for our President and those in leadership. The Bible says:
Romans 13:1-7 New Living Translation (NLT)
Respect for Authority
Everyone must submit to governing authorities. For all authority comes from God, and those in positions of authority have been placed there by God. 2 So anyone who rebels against authority is rebelling against what God has instituted, and they will be punished.
3 For the authorities do not strike fear in people who are doing right, but in those who are doing wrong. Would you like to live without fear of the authorities? Do what is right, and they will honor you. 4 The authorities are God’s servants, sent for your good. But if you are doing wrong, of course you should be afraid, for they have the power to punish you. They are God’s servants, sent for the very purpose of punishing those who do what is wrong. 5 So you must submit to them, not only to avoid punishment, but also to keep a clear conscience.
6 Pay your taxes, too, for these same reasons. For government workers need to be paid. They are serving God in what they do. 7 Give to everyone what you owe them: Pay your taxes and government fees to those who collect them, and give respect and honor to those who are in authority.
PRESIDENTS DAY ~
Rules, laws and order in our country is important. Just like rules. laws and order in our personal lives. The Bible speaks of the ten commandments and how we are following them. If you think about it, the Bible gives us guidelines to follow the example of Jesus and purpose our character after him. One of kindness and al the gifts of the spirit. It is each of our choices to follow God in the fullness, maybe just a little or not at all. I've been in all those places before and today I follow him with all my heart.
PRESIDENTS DAY 2017 ~
Let us set aside difference and pray for our President for wisdom plus health. Let us continue to pray for our Presidents that still alive. One life makes such a difference and each of our examples matters as well. Have a safe and fun day whether you have the day off or not.
As I close this our today, my prayers continue to be with you, your family and friends.. Giving thanks for all those who have gone before us and served our country.
