John 15:12-14 New Living Translation (NLT)
12 This is my commandment: Love each other in the same way I have loved you.13 There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. 14 You are my friends if you do what I command.
Psalm 23:1-4 New Living Translation (NLT)
A psalm of David.
1 The Lord is my shepherd;
I have all that I need.
2 He lets me rest in green meadows;
he leads me beside peaceful streams.
3 He renews my strength.
He guides me along right paths,
bringing honor to his name.
4 Even when I walk
through the darkest valley,
I will not be afraid,
for you are close beside me.
Your rod and your staff
protect and comfort me.
SACRIFICES ~ MILITARY/FAMILY/FRIENDS
Men and Women sacrificed their lives daily.
People go into the military for different reasons and to protect the country. My dad (Ed) was in World War II. He didn't speak much about the War, but I know it was a very difficult time of his life. He was married and came back to the wife wanting a divorce. It changed his life is so many ways and then he met my mom. My dad would die when I was 18 years old and years would pass. My mom would meet a man (Irwin) in her late 70's and he would speak of the war. He would cry and talk about things he saw. I sat and listen to him because it was fresh in his mind and I wanted to know. It was a life changing experiences and also nightmares of what he saw.
I shared the story about Irwin, because he said he didn't like days like Veterans Day or Memorial Day because it brought back so much to his mind. It also brought back friendships he had then and he never knew what happen to some of his friends in war.
MEMORIAL DAY EVENTS ~
There will be events around own cities to honor Veterans. Let us not forget to pray for the family/friends who are so connected to this day is their own personal ways! I know my dad and Irwin was BRAVE, but there were many who go unknown as heroes too. Each person played an important part in our freedom and those who continue to serve, will also be heroes in my mind. It is those who protect us that we give thanks to on each day of life
Their sacrifices are huge. Not only did they sacrifice but their family and friends sacrifice too. There is no price that can be put upon one life. When a person enters Heaven, they remain in our hearts. I am thankful for all those who served our country and those who continue to serve our country. I am thankful for those who sacrifice far more than I might realize. Time is precious and so is life.
Tears come into my eyes as I write this. I know that missing someone is crazy hard. I do care and promise to pray today for those hurting and missing loved ones. Only God can mend the broken hearted ~ Psalm 147:3 (NIV)
MEMORIAL DAY ~
It's not just a day off, it's a day of remembrance!
Thank you to all who gave their all for each of us.
