Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they will be called children of God.
Martin Luther King Jr is known as a peacemaker and for his speech called, "I HAVE A DREAM". A man of action and not just words. Please read what the dictionary says:
"I Have a Dream" is a public speech that was delivered by American civil rights activist Martin Luther King Jr. during the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom on August 28, 1963, in which he called for civil and economic rights and an end to racism in the United States. Delivered to over 250,000 civil rights supporters from the steps of the Lincoln Memorial in Washing, D.C., the speech was a defining moment of the civil rights movement.
Today we honor him with a Federal Holiday. I highly encourage you to read his speech and you can find that online. I find it amazing how one life can spark so much change. I was only 8 years old when this speech happen and I did not understand it. I only knew this as a kid, he had a dream for all people to be treated the same. The year was 1968 when he would be assassinated and I would cry. A man who wanted people to be treated the same and someone would take his life. I was 13 years old and laying in a hospital bed from tonsil surgery when I saw this news on the TV of what happened. I saw people who were angry and riots would start. My mind didn't understand at 13 years old.
When I got back to school, I found that people attitudes toward each other was full of anger. Riots in schools and police outside the school. It wasn't Martin Luther King Jr plan to cause riots and anger. He was a peacemaker but it was true, something had to change.
