: a civil holiday for the celebration of the anniversary of the beginnings of national independence; specifically : July 4 observed as a legal holiday in the U.S. in commemoration of the adoption of the Declaration of Independence in 1776
Many people celebrate this day with family/friends barbecuing and fireworks at night. A time to remember what was done in generations before us. We can also celebrate the freedom that Jesus gave us a long time ago as well. A time to be born and a time to grow into a better person. I think of the men and women who sacrifices so much for our freedom in America. Lives were changed by one individual which lead to another individual who wanted to make a difference. If we could only see how our own lives can make such a difference to someone else. People go down History doing some amazing things in life that changes our country forever. Spiritually we can make a difference in many ways.
2 Corinthians 3:17 New International Version (NIV)
Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.
Have you ever thought about the freedom we have in America? July 4th isn't just another day, but a day we can celebrate national independence. Giving honor to God for a new day and walking in freedom of our country. I don't take freedom for granted and remember to give thanks for it. My own choices set me up for freedom or keep me held back in mind. Two voices come to my mind now:
John 8:36 New International Version (NIV)
So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.
Galatians 5:1 New International Version (NIV)
Freedom in Christ It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.
A new day brings new thoughts and new beginnings. I talk about it a lot because we can often stay in yesterdays of life while we should be living in the freedom of this day. Surround yourself with people who care today and share a text message. People move away, people die and our lives are left with a missing link or are they? Are lives are purpose to live in community of others and sharing stories of life. We have too many ways not to stay connected to someone. Most people have a cell phone and so easy to take a picture, send a text or even a call. You can actually face time someone and see them millions of miles away. Getting involved in church, sports, dance, school and the list goes on to connect us with others lives. Your example is far greater than you might realize today.
As you see fireworks tonight in person or on TV or not at all, just think of the freedom God has given you this day. A day to give thanks to all you do have in life and celebration of the 4th of July independence. Thanking service people who help protect our lives daily. My prayers continue for you, your family and friends.
