We went to Disneyland a few years ago and ran into a friends (Lauryn and her family). We schedule sometime to have fun together while we were there. It's crazy how fast time is passing us by as we watch kids grow up. Brookley and Lauren will enter 6th grade (Middle school) and Willow will enter 4th grade soon. There is great memories from this trip and seeing how important friendship can be.
FRIENDSHIP ~
It is a gift from God
Luke 6:31 New International Version (NIV)
Do to others as you would have them do to you.
Growing up, my mom would tell me to treat people like I would like to be treated. As a kid, there were kids who liked to tease me. I disliked school so much in grade school. It all began in fourth grade. Even the teacher would say things and kids would laugh. I've never forget that and even had a singing teacher tell me to never sing again. It scared me for sure, but now I look through older eyes. These eyes have taught me that teachers are just humans too. Words are powerful and can cut deep inside. Nobody can see the scares but they last. We often replay words and it carries into our own adulthood.
In middle school, I had an assignment to write a short story. I don't remember it now, but I remember the teachers words. She gave me a "A" and told me how great it was and writing was a gift. I didn't really understand the depth of her words until I got older. The power behind words and writing is a gift. I write you daily to encourage you and spur you on in life. I heard about Jesus and his story of helping others. He went away, but is still here. A real friend and comforter at all times.
Proverbs 17:17 New International Version (NIV)
17 A friend loves at all times,
and a brother is born for a time of adversity.
Proverbs 19:20-21 New International Version (NIV)
20 Listen to advice and accept discipline,
and at the end you will be counted among the wise.
21 Many are the plans in a person’s heart,
but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.
FRIENDS ~
God connects our lives to others for purpose
In the beginning of this blog, I spoke of Lauryn and the friendship. I am also friends with her mom (Kelly) and have enjoyed birthday parties as well. The great thing about one friend, is that it often connects us to another person. Our circle of life grows larger and I'll never when Kelly dropped off food to my house. I had a heart attack in September of last year and her parents wanted to help. Driving by food was such a blessing and a gift of caring. Then when I spoke at a Women's Event, Kelly came and that blessed my soul so much. The girls had a teacher named Mrs. Boughner and she came to the event I spoke at too. I realize that inviting others to our special things, makes life even better with friendships.
A new day brings new opportunities to stay connected. A phone call, a text message, a Facebook post, or now zoom calls. Life is changing daily and we change as people too. We can grow into a better person in life or we can grow bitter. I've seen a lot in life and I am one to chooses to grow into a better person. I must guard my heart because I sometimes get my feelings hurt. I do expect a little too much out of others and not everyone is like me. My life is half gone now, but I choose to look at it as half full of new beginnings. Yes, each of us have the choice to shine and be like Jesus. Sharing kindness and helping others as we go. That is called friendship.
I thank God for Kelly, Warren and their family. I thank God for my many friends and family. It is good to stop and remember things. Just thinking about our Disneyland and California Adventure brings joy to my soul. Reminding my self that God is good and I love how he connects my life to others. Thank you for reading my blog and planting hope in your soul today. God is working things out and we can rest in that during this shelter in place time of life. Leaning not to our own understanding and allowing God to guide our footsteps.
My thoughts and prayers continue for you, your family and friends.
