Proverbs 18:24 New International Version (NIV)
One who has unreliable friends soon comes to ruin,
but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.
FRIEND ~ The dictionary says:
a person whom one knows and with whom one has a bond
Ephesians 4:3-6 New International Version (NIV)
Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.4 There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to one hope when you were called; 5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism; 6 one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.
The Bible shows us great friendships: Jonathon and David, Ruth and Naomi, Jesus and Peter, and let us not forget God and Abraham. Different types of friendships and given by God. God told us to love one another as he has loved us. It can be hard to follow this when people hurt us. Each of us do not think alike or react alike in life. Taking on the character of Jesus is important.
John 15:12-17 New International Version (NIV)
My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. 13 Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. 14 You are my friends if you do what I command. 15 I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you. 16 You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last—and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you.17 This is my command: Love each other.
I have found a friend in Jesus and he remains the same. I remember being a kid and hearing about Jesus. When I heard that Jesus loves me, it made me so happy. I didn't understand the love or even why he would love me. I just knew he was in heaven and I wanted to hear more about him. That would not actually happen for me, until I had already graduated high school. A life changing experience happen and the process of getting to know Jesus begin in my life.
Taking time for Jesus is like spending time with a great friend. One who really understands you and wants the best for you. A new letting go experience of things you can not change. Jesus walked this earth as an example of doing what is right. The treatment he received was so mixed with good and bad. Jesus choose you and appointed you to bear fruit. It is so much like the days in the Bible. Our example matters and he tell us to love our neighbor. Verse 17 above is a command to love one another.
I don't know what you are facing today, but God knows. He is one step ahead of you and wants you to trust him through the process of change. Change happens to each of us and we can grow from experiences of our lives. Learning and growing is a daily process. Please know that I care, plus my prayers continue for you, your family and friends. Remember this, you have a friend in Jesus and pray that he connects you to other real friends in life. I prayed that and now I have many people who are real friends in my life.
