John 15:12-13 New International Version (NIV)
My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. 13 Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.
Family and friends hold a special place within my heart. Each one is different and I care about them. I have learned over time that we are not all the same. The Bible speaks of helping others and even loving our enemies. It just all a bit too much but down deep inside, I know God's word walks us through different situations of time. Not all families get along or even want time together. I don't think they are necessarily enemies, but just distance between them. The Bible speaks of loving our enemies and that seems crazy at times. But read what God's word says about loving our enemies.
Luke 6:27-36 New International Version (NIV)
Love for Enemies
27 “But to you who are listening I say: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, 28 bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. 29 If someone slaps you on one cheek, turn to them the other also. If someone takes your coat, do not withhold your shirt from them. 30 Give to everyone who asks you, and if anyone takes what belongs to you, do not demand it back. 31 Do to others as you would have them do to you.
32 “If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners love those who love them. 33 And if you do good to those who are good to you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners do that. 34 And if you lend to those from whom you expect repayment, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners, expecting to be repaid in full. 35 But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be children of the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked. 36 Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.
I remember being a young christian. I didn't understand the Bible or God's way. I was new to going to church and I watched others. Over time, I found out that not everyone who goes to church lives that christian example. I was developing my own christian self and I found it to be hard at times. We just can't expect each other to know everything or even walk a perfect christian walk. We are human and we make mistakes. There came a time when I stopped pointing fingers are others and worked on myself. I wanted to be a kind person and just do my best, but I still made mistakes.
What we do need is real friends and family who stick by us. It is people who care about us and take the time to teach us gently. How about you? Does your family and friends stick by you and do you stick by them? It's doesn't always happen that way, but I'm telling you this, God will send people into your life to mentor you. You can also learn from your own mistakes of life and press forward daily.
Hebrews 10:24-25 New International Version (NIV)
24 And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, 25 not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.
My prayers continue for you, your family and friends. Be encouraged today and allow God to mold you daily into a better person. Purpose time with those you care about and show kindness.
